Chelsea have found perfect replacement of Ivanovic at Real Madrid
Dani Carvajal isn’t enjoying a great deal of playing time at Real Madrid at the moment, and that has reportedly pricked up the ears of Chelsea’s new boss Guus Hiddink
Just 11 appearances in all competitions, with only seven of those for the entire 90 minutes, the right-back can now be considered the understudy to new signing Danilo, and that’s something that won’t sit well with the former academy graduate.
Having signed for Bayer Leverkusen for a season, Carvajal was brought back to Madrid to continue his development and has been one of the stand out players at the Santiago Bernabeu. Which makes his general omissions all the harder to understand.
Chelsea have spectacularly underperformed this season and there are some key areas where the Blues need to reinvest.
Branislav Ivanovic, for all of his battling qualities, is nothing more than a lumbering liability at present. Defensively the Serb has become an embarrassment. With no pace to speak of now, attackers have gone past him at will, leaving him in their slipstream.
The 23-year-old Carvajal is perfect player for Chelsea. He has a full eight years on the Serb, and in real terms is nowhere close to his peak at this point. Quick, sharp and committed, the Real Madrid man has everything that Hiddink admires in his staff.
